“What shall we say then? That Gentiles who did not pursue righteousness have attained it, that is, a righteousness that is by faith.”- Romans 9:30
Have you every tried your hardest to do something only to come up short? I think we can all answer that with a resounding “YES!” We train, we practice, we study, but sometimes something happens when the desired outcome just does not happen.
Today’s verse details a contrast between the Jews and Gentiles of the Apostle Paul’s day. Paul describes Israel as reaching and striving to fulfill the law of God, but ultimately came up short. The Gentiles did not pursue the law, but attained righteousness through faith in Christ. This does not mean that we do not have rules to follow, but it does mean that we need proper perspective. To get to heaven we must have faith in Jesus Christ. No amount of work on our end will be good enough to get us there. Only through faith in Christ. Where is your trust today? Are you depending on yourself to work your way to heaven? Or have you put your faith in Christ as the gentiles in today’s verse did? Make a wise choice.
