“For God sent the Son into the world, not to condemn the world, but that the world might be saved through Him.”-John 3:17
This beautiful nugget of biblical wisdom is often lost in the shuffle of John 3:16-18. These three verses of the Gospel of John encapsulate the good news in a succinct and concrete way. How often do we forget about today’s verse, not only in our everyday lives, but in our conversations with those who do not believe?
The mission of Christ was to seek and save that which was lost (Luke 19:10). He came to give life and give it more abundantly (John 10:10). He came to save the world, but as John 3:18 says those who do not believe are condemned already. To often we focus on the condemnation and not on the salvation. Let us remember that there is a remedy for our judgment and that is the salvific work of Jesus on the cross. His mission was to come and save, and that is the same thing we must proclaim. Proclaim the good news of his saving grace today and everyday!
