I write these things to you who believe in the Son of God that you may know you have eternal life.”-1 John 5:13
John wrote this epistle to combat to combat an early form of Gnosticism. He wrote to let believers know that salvation is based on belief in Jesus Christ, and not adherence to esoteric knowledge. John emphasized this fact by calling believers back to true doctrine, obedient living, and fervent devotion.
Are you being obedient to the Lord? Are you questioning your salvation? Today’s verse says that we can have the assurance of salvation. Elsewhere in the letter John mentions this knowledge nine times. Spend some time today prayerfully examining your life. Are you fervently living the Christian life, or are you holding something back? If you accepted Christ as Lord be assured of your place with Him in heaven, and give Him everything you have in his service. It is the least we can do for such an incredible gift!
