“Have mercy on me, O God, according to your steadfast love; according to your abundant mercy blot out my transgressions.  Wash me thoroughly from my iniquity, and cleanse me from my sin.”-Psalm 51:1-2

This Psalm was written by king David at a crucial point in his life.  He was known as a man “after God’s own heart”, yet he did the unthinkable.  He had an affair with Bathsheba and arranged for her husband, Uriah, to be set to the front line to die.  After a conversation with Nathan the prophet David felt the weight of what he had done.  Today’s verse is one of mercy and forgiveness. and that is what the Lord gave David .

As Christians we are not immune to sin, and sometimes we do things we consider to be particularly heinous.  Maybe, like David, you had an affair and are trying desperately to cover it up.  Maybe it is a lie that just keeps getting bigger and bigger.  The point is that there is no sin that is to big for God to forgive.  His mercy and forgiveness are free for the asking.  Resolve today to examine your life.  Bring any sin before the throne of grace and experience his mercy and forgiveness today.  Today is the day of repentance, and today is the day we can all enter into a right relationship with our Lord.  Ask!
